National Close the Gap Day
Today is National Close the Gap Day, raising awareness about how we can achieve health equality for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The five steps toward excellent Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander healthcare resource, developed by the RACGP, provides a comprehensive guide and resources accessible to enhance quality care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health in general practice.
The five steps outlined in the resources aim to ensure:
- practices are ready, welcoming and culturally safe
- eligible patients are identified, invited to participate and arrangements are made for appropriate follow up
- practices are registered for the Indigenous Health Incentive and patients are registered for Closing the Gap PBS co-payment
- practices have access to appropriate clinical guidelines, training and programs.
Aboriginal health is a priority for COORDINARE. Please talk with your HCC if you would like any assistance with implementing the Five Steps guide or other initiatives to help close the gap
