Uploading shared health summaries: A local example
The Milton Medical Centre is leading the way when it comes to using My Health Record, with more than 500 Shared Health Summaries now in the system.
According to Gina Evans, Practice Manager, the practice has found the new relaunched system much easier to use.
“It takes minimal time to input or access information, and has actually helped our practice day-to-day by giving GPs a more complete view of their patient’s health,” said Gina. “But it hasn’t just happened overnight; it’s something that we’ve been working on for the last 12 months.”
With more than 16 GPs and 7 practice nurses, Gina says one of the key strategies behind their success is having a number of GP and practice nurse champions to lead this work.
“I’ve also held a lot of in-house training and tutorial sessions which has helped to build confidence in using the system. This has included a number of all staff training sessions, as well as one-on-one sessions with GPs which has been highly effective,” said Gina.
“I also do a weekly reminder to all GPs and encourage them to prioritise those patients who will benefit most from having a Shared Health Summary, particularly their older patients or those with chronic and complex conditions.”
