  1. Recognise and Respond - Suicide Prevention training
  • Recognise and Respond - Suicide Prevention training

Talking to someone about suicide may feel like one of the hardest things you’ll ever do, but it could also be one of the most important conversations you’ll ever have.

COORDINARE in collaboration with Black Dog Institute is offering the Recognise and Respond - Suicide Prevention training free to people living and working in the South Eastern NSW Primary Health Network region.

About Recognise and Respond

Recognise and Respond is a 1-hour online course that aims to reduce and prevent suicide in Australia. It equips learners with the skills and confidence needed to have a life-saving conversation with a friend, family member or colleague who may be at risk of suicide.

Recognise and Respond was developed by the Black Dog Institute in response to a need for a program that was suited to the Australian community. The design of the program was informed by extensive consultations with people with a lived experience of suicide to ensure it is relevant, engaging, and easy to follow. The rigor of the program was informed by existing evidence and input from academics and clinicians.

The training provides a guided learning experience with expert videos and case study videos.

Topics covered include:

  • Prevalence of suicide

  • Risk factors, warning signs and symptoms

  • Having conversations about suicide

  • Support and resources

People living or working in the South Eastern NSW Primary Health Network region can access a free Recognise and Respond licence.

You will be asked to create an account on the Black Dog Institute website to access the training.

Recognise and Respond is designed for the general population, workers or members of the public who are likely to encounter individuals at risk and may be influential in their decision to access care.

However, their role does not necessarily require formal training in suicide crisis response and management.

People living or working in the South Eastern NSW Primary Health Network region can access a free Recognise and Respond licence.
