To support our general practice workforce, LHDs and other health services to improve patient care we are implementing a General Practitioner Scholarship Program that offers short term paid placements within set clinical areas.

These scholarships provide an innovative collaborative opportunity for GPs, LHDs and other health professionals to work together to deliver better care and improve health outcomes for communities across our catchment.

If you are a GP and would like the opportunity to work with local specialists and their clinical teams to update your knowledge, skills and networks we encourage you to apply. Each scholarship program provides remuneration for 40 hours and will be accredited for 40 RACGP CPD hours (5 educational activities, 35 reviewing performance).

A Department of Regional NSW initiative, The Welcome Experience is designed to facilitate, attract, prepare and welcome key frontline workers to regional NSW. Originally designed to support public service workers the service has expanded to include General Practitioners.

Local Area Connectors are available to connect you and your family with local people and local resources helping them settle in and feel at home in their new community faster.

After a successful pilot, the Welcome Experience has been expanded to include several new locations across South Eastern NSW.  

Local Connectors are now available in the Bega Valley, Eurobodalla, Goulburn Mulwaree, Queanbeyan Palerang, Snowy Monaro, Upper Lachlan Shire and Yass Valley Local Government Areas (LGAs) with planning underway to implement the Welcome Experience in number of new LGAs including Shellharbour, Kiama and Shoalhaven.

To encourage health professionals to work in regional, rural and remote areas and support general practices to provide multidisciplinary team based care the Department of Health and Aged Care provide incentives through the Workforce Incentive Program.

Currently there are three incentive streams:

• The practice stream - aimed at incentivising practices to support multidisciplinary team base care by engaging a range of health professionals
• The doctor stream - pays incentives directly to doctors providing primacy care in Modified Monash (MM) 3-7 locations
• The rural advanced skill payment - this payment is provided directly to doctors providing both primary care and emergency and / or advanced skills in MM 3-7 locations.
