Ensuring a well distributed GP workforce across the region
From 1 February 2023, the Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) Program transitioned to a college-led model. This new model will be administered through the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine and the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.
To support this transition, workforce planning and prioritisation organisations have been funded to provide localised advice on community workforce needs at the GP catchment level, through the Workforce Planning and Prioritisation (WPP) Program. Learn more by clicking on the headings below.
Led by ACT Primary Health Network (PHN), COORDINARE is part of a consortium of PHNs who have been funded to deliver the program across the ACT and NSW.
Our analysis of GP Registrar need across our region will be essential in informing colleges in their prioritisation of GP registrar allocation. By using our insight into the current and future needs of the communities within our catchment, our work will ensure a well distributed GP workforce across the region.
This collaborative approach will inform planning to meet current and future GP workforce needs, and is part of the broader transition to a college-led training model that aims to ensure GP Registrars are better informed and supported to train in a single region.
You can help inform advice on current and future workforce needs, by completing the GP Workforce Planning and Prioritisation Survey by 30 July 2023. Follow the link to the survey here, or scan the QR code below:
