Diabetes care education scholarship opportunity

26 October 2026

In recognition of national Diabetes month in November and World Diabetes Day on 14 November, COORDINARE is offering scholarships to health professionals working in primary care in South Eastern NSW who are interested in strengthening diabetes knowledge and skills.

Eligibility for the scholarships includes primary care nurses as well as the broader multidisciplinary primary care workforce. Participants can apply to do either Diabetes in Practice for Nurses or Diabetes Essentials for Health Professionals, with both courses combining flexible eLearning with live, case-based discussion.

Prue Buist, CEO of COORDINARE, said the scholarships aim to build confidence in delivering high-quality, evidence-based diabetes care in the region’s local communities.

"Earlier this year we awarded 44 scholarships from 9 local government areas to strengthen general practice nurses’ clinical knowledge and ability to provide high-quality diabetes care in primary care settings. We're offering a second round of scholarships following the strong demand for the course and positive feedback from participants," said Ms Buist.

A course participant James said: "It was a very well thought out learning experience, and I hope to apply what I learnt into my everyday practice.”

Another course graduate Lana said thanks to the course she is confidently: “helping patients navigate between newly diagnosed diabetes and their needs and what services they can access within the area”.

Applications close on 30 November 2026, successful applicants will receive access the course from February 2027 and must complete it within six months of enrolment.
