National Cervical Screening program expansion of self-collection eligibility

27 June 2022

From 1 July 2022, the National Cervical Screening Program (NCSP) will expand screening test options, offering self-collection as a choice to all people for whom an HPV test is needed.

These changes mean that healthcare providers may start to see an increase in the volume of requests from patients to use self-collection as an option for their Cervical Screening Test.

Key messages around the change can be found here. Additional resources and training modules are expected to be available shortly.

Guidelines for the management of screen-detected abnormalities, screening in specific populations and investigation of abnormal vaginal bleeding have been updated and will come into effect 1 July 2022. The partial update can be found here.

The Cancer Institute NSW and the RACGP are offering a webinar about cervical screening in General Practice, self-collection eligibility policy change and the intermediate risk pathway. The webinar is on 12 July from 7pm. Find out more and register for the webinar here.
