New free early mental health support now available

14 April 2026

A new Australian Government service, Medicare Mental Health Check In, is now available to support people experiencing mild mental health challenges.

Medicare Mental Health Check In provides free, low‑intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (LiCBT) delivered online, with support from trained practitioners via telehealth.

The service is designed for people aged 16 years and over who may be feeling down, stressed or overwhelmed and would benefit from early, lowintensity mental health support.

People can currently access guided LiCBT through scheduled telehealth appointments. From 30 May 2026, self‑guided online tools will also be available, allowing people to work through evidence‑based supports at their own pace.

There is no cost, referral or diagnosis required to access this service.

To find out whether Medicare Mental Health Check In is right for you and to access the service, call Medicare Mental Health on 1800 595 212 (available weekdays between 8:30am and 5pm, excluding public holidays). The phone service will help determine suitable support options.

Stakeholders and service providers are encouraged to raise awareness of Medicare Mental Health Check In and share information about the service with people who may benefit from early mental health support.
