COVID-19 vaccine rollout phase 1B update

18 March 2021

From Monday 22 March the first general practices will begin to support the COVID-19 vaccination program.

The number of services coming online from next week will progressively increase in number between now and the end of April – as part of Phase 1B of Australia’s COVID-19 vaccine program.

This staged scale up will align with the supply of the locally produced AstraZeneca vaccine, and as more vaccine becomes available more services will come online.

The Australian Government has announced the start of this rollout, along with information on how people can find a vaccination service via the online eligibility checker on www.health.gov.au

There are approximately six million Australians who are eligible for vaccination in Phase 1b and many will seek to make appointments immediately.

There will be some people who would benefit from vaccination sooner than others – even though they fall into Phase 1b – and general practices are best placed to determine their priority order for vaccination so those most in need within the group are vaccinated first.
